The Good Son Service

Leon Mercer can play a respectable son, an attentive listener and a man who knows how furniture fits together. Getting paid to act is proving harder. When he advertises the Good Son Service, older Caribbean residents across Manchester begin booking his company, his carrying capacity and his willingness to turn up. An optician's visit becomes a referral. A lunch becomes a performance. Every client has opinions, a life of their own and very little patience for being managed. Leon is soon busier than he has ever been—and discovering how easily being useful can become needing to be needed. Warm, observant and quietly unruly, The Good Son Service follows the comedy of hired help and the complicated business of making time for one another.
