The Red Myths

Prologue

Western civilization is generally seen as the heritage of cultures that spread across Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world. According to historians, it started with the rise of the Greek and Roman Empires.  The Greco-Roman period saw the rise of political, social, and religious influences that affected the cultural background of the regions they conquered.   Over time, only fragments of lost cultures remained, while Greco-Roman influences remained dominant in society.  One such force was the Roman Catholic Church.  The Church had major influences on political and social issues throughout ancient civilizations.  To spread its religious beliefs, it sent missionaries into conquered regions to convince natives they were uncivilized.  Their understanding of human culture was limited; therefore, they did not understand the importance of enduring them.   Over time, most of the world accepted the church's teachings in exchange for losing their own cultural beliefs and ideologies.

Today, religion plays a major role in political and social structures.   There are debates regarding issue such the creation theory, abortion, civil unions, women’s rights, civil rights and the true religion.  In most cases, people revert to the bible as their source of information.  Others were condemned, tortured and killed because of their religious differences.  Rape victims are denied the right to abort a fetus because of religious beliefs.  Women were persecuted for centuries because of religious belief.  Several races of people were oppressed and enslaved because of financial greed that was disguised as religious beliefs.   Religion was what caused the Crusades that started several religious expeditionary wars between 1095 and 1291. Pope Urban II of the Roman Catholic Church, wanted to restore Christians access to Jerusalem in order to assert the churches dominance.   Since then, the region remained unstable due to religious conflicts.    But what if people began to question the legitimacy of the bible, will that allow them to see beyond what they’ve been conditioned to believe? That was the question that became the obsession of an enlightened few, who considered religion as the single most factors that caused most of the issues of the world.
