As a travel blogger and author, visiting the Tokyo Skytree is like standing at the summit of modern engineering. Reaching 634 meters into the clouds, it isn’t just a tower; it’s a vertical city that offers a perspective of Tokyo that feels almost fictional in its vastness.
I visited this iconic landmark with my family and our Jamaican friends who live here. Much like our dinner in Daikanyama, the Skytree provided a perfect backdrop for our multicultural group to marvel at the sprawling metropolis below.
The Experience
The journey begins with a high-speed elevator ride that feels like a scene from a sci-fi novel. Once you reach the Tembo Deck (350m) and the Tembo Galleria (450m), the world transforms into a miniature model.
- The Tembo Galleria: This is the “world’s highest skywalk.” It’s a sloped, glass-walled corridor that makes you feel as though you are walking through the air.
- Sunset Views: We timed our visit for the late afternoon. Watching the sun dip behind Mount Fuji in the distance while the city lights began to flicker on was a highlight for everyone in our party.
Dining at the Top
For a traveling author, the Musashi Sky Restaurant inside the tower is a fantastic place to gather thoughts over a meal.

- The Pescatarian Pivot: My daughter stuck to her favorites—crispy fries and wings—while I explored the à la carte options. I found that the kitchen was incredibly accommodating. I enjoyed a beautifully prepared seafood selection that allowed me to enjoy the fine dining experience without the meat options.
- Vegetarian Friendly: Many of the appetizers and side dishes in the courses are meat-free, making it easy to dine here even if you have specific dietary restrictions.
